This boat has been designed to carry out the following activities:

- oceanographic research (biological, chemical and physical) in coastal areas and in open sea;

- collection of data on the surface and at depth;

- towing and operating of oceanographic apparatus on the surface and at depth, and of plankton and sea bottom nets.

It is certified for national coastal navigation within a 12 mile limit.
It was designed and built for the Regional Environmental Protection Agency, Sicily, Italy.
